Moscato d'Asti is a sweet and low in alcohol dessert wine obtained from Moscato grapes grown in Piedmont, precisely in the Asti area. Moscato d’Asti is also a DOCG appellation, recently an appellation within the appellation has been created to highlight an area that has proved to produce some of the best examples of the wine, Canelli.
The Moscato d’Asti or Canelli is a wine with a straw yellow, sometimes tending to golden and with an enviable shine. The scents are overwhelming and recall musk, flowers and white fruits, while there is no shortage of memories of honey. It is its unmistakable hint of musk responsible for the name of the wine and the grape. A good Moscato d’Asti or Canelli is much more than a dessert wine and evolves in the bottle, a wine that can be cellared and drunk after a few years.
The grape variety from which Moscato d'Asti or Canelli DOGC is obtained is Moscato Bianco. The original name of this vine is "Muscat Blanc à Petit Grains" and it is a grape variety that is very widespread all over the world and, in particular, in the Mediterranean.
