Why we love it
Roero Arneis is one of Piedmont’s most renowned white wines, produced in the prestigious Roero DOCG appellation. Made exclusively from the Arneis grape, this refined Italian white stands out for its delicate floral aromas, vibrant acidity, and signature minerality, earning its place among the best Italian white wines. Often referred to as “the other white grape of Piedmont,” Arneis offers a unique alternative to the better known Cortese that produced the Gavi.
This Roero Arneis delights the senses with an intensely aromatic bouquet, showcasing notes of white flowers, ripe pear, and stone fruit. On the palate, it is beautifully balanced, full-bodied yet fresh, with a lively acidity and a clean, mineral finish that enhances its elegance.
Perfect for food pairing, Roero Arneis is a versatile white wine ideal with appetizers, seafood, risottos, and white meats. Its bright, crisp character complements a wide range of dishes, making it a go-to choice for both casual meals and special occasions.
The artisan who made it
The I Moncalvi winery is now in the hands of Mauro, the current generation, who has inherited not only the family tradition but also a deep passion for winemaking. Mauro is fully dedicated to crafting exceptional wines, putting great care into every step of the process to ensure that each bottle reflects the unique qualities of the land and the grapes he cultivates.
The winery’s vineyards are located in the heart of the prestigious Gavi appellation, in the province of Alessandria, Piedmont. They primarily consist of Cortese grapes, which are used to produce the renowned Gavi wine, but also include small plantings of Barbera and Dolcetto. The vines, ranging in age from twenty to fifty years old, benefit from the region’s exceptional terroir, which contributes to the production of high quality wines with distinctive character.
Mauro's commitment to excellence is evident in his meticulous grape selection process. He insists on using only the best grapes for his wines, ensuring that each vintage meets his standards. Any grapes that do not meet his quality threshold are sold to nearby wineries, a testament to his unwavering dedication to producing only the best wines possible. Through his hard work, passion, and respect for tradition, Mauro continues to uphold and enhance the reputation of I Moncalvi, creating wines that stand out in the Gavi region.
