Why we love it

We first tasted this Montepulciano d'Abruzzo by pure chance and we were surprised by its freshness despite the vintage, it smelled and tasted like a young wine despite the years in the bottle but without any of the tannins you would expect from a young Montepulciano d'Abruzzo.

We then visited the winery and found out that the wine is made from grapes from two different vineyards, one on a hill, at a considerable altitude and one lower in the valley very close to the Adriatic sea, it is a wine that blends acidity and ripeness, and then fermented and aged in cement. The result is an outstanding Montepulciano d'Abruzzo with a big, bold, fruity nose, with notes of blueberries and black cherry, and a very smooth and soft palate with a lovely acidity and a great elegance.

This Montepulciano d'Abruzzo pairs perfectly tomato based pasta, charcuterie, pork dishes.

The artisan who made it

Donvitantonio vini is a family winery form Abruzzo, a territory with a long winemaking and culture history. After gaining wine making experience abroad and in Italy, working in some of the best wineries, both Donvitantonio’s grandsons, Antonio and Simone decided to go back home, to their roots, and take over Nonno Donvitantonio vineyards and start bottling their own grapes, until them, the grapes were sold to the local cooperatives. Antonio and Simone are the 3rd generation and their mission is to value and promote indigenous grapes.
